Public users:
Updated 15.November 2005: I am experimenting with web analytics tools, and have dedicated a random collection of pages for that purpose. Those pages might ask for a cookie, and if so, it is marked with "this page use cookies". Cookies are your choice, which you can turn off/on.
In general, no effort is made to identify public users of this site. No
identifying data is disclosed to any third party for any purpose.
Data that are collected is used only for server administration and
Web protocol research.
This statement applies to interactions with
the Web servers. It does not apply to email sent to this server or
to any other attempt to contact this server.
Any questions regarding the web site and the privacy policy can be directed to the contact
information found on this site.
Email interactions are guided by general net-etiquette conventions.
As is typical, http requests are
logged to this server. This means that the originating IP address
of a user agent requesting a URL is known, including the Referrer
and User-Agent information accompanied with HTTP requests. Specific
identity of visitors is not logged.
I occasionally analyze the log files to determine which files are most requested and the previous
site or user agent which prompted the request. The logging is
passive; I do not use technologies such as web bugs or
other spyware to maintain any information on users.
Requests to search, cgi, and list maintenance services are logged. This data is
only used for administration and researching the efficacy of the
tools. Logged information might bee kept indefinitely as
administrative and research material; it is not disclosed to other
parties or personnel. Aggregate (completely non-identifying)
statistics generated from these logs may be reported as part of
research results.
