Hei

I had a lumpectomy 4/12/02. I was supposed to start radiation, but the new medical oncologist read the pathology report wrong and was staging the cancer according to the tissue taken (4cm.) instead of the tumor, which was only .5 centimeters, and was saying I had to have chemo. It's all very stupid and I just want to get the radiation over with and the radiation oncologist won't get it started till she sees the pathology slides and the slides seem to have gotten misplaced. I am sick of it all and just want to get on with the radiation and get it over with, so I appreciate your message very much. Thank you.

Your messageI saw your picture "Exaulte Jubilate," which our marketing director Jill Prince has talked to you about using on our poster. Today we say the "rough draft" of this poster in our rehearsal, and everyone thought it was stunning. Thank you so much for allowing us to use this picture. It expresses so well the feeling of what it is to sing.

Your messageWant to congratulate you on the gorgeous and perfect painting that we are using on our poster for the Idaho-Wahington Concert Chorale. I feel the woman portrays well the beauty of singing. Thank you for letting us use it.
By the way, are you of Danish descent? Langeland is also the name of a southern Danish island. My father came from Denmark and my maternal grandmother from Norway. All in all, it's great to have a Norweigian's creation on our poster. Mange takk.

Your messageI liked very much your picture about Exultate, Jubilate.I like singing, and lately it is one of my favourite songs.I like also dancing, and I try to do a little every day, although my eight hours work in the office as a technician. I like also the way you look at the life. I feel the same. I will sing again Exultate, Jubilate thinking on your picture.

CommentI was truly moved by this site. I found your art (and your life!) inspiring. I am only 20 yrs old, so I cannot truly begin to comprehend all of the trials and tribulations life has given you, but I extend my deepest sympathy and respect. There is often a very special bond between twins, and I am sorry for your loss. You are a very strong person.
I was very impressed with your art. Particularly the ones titled "Kurdish children", "I wanted to paint Galadriel but...", and "And then you begin to arrange the blows to fall". I hope you don't mind but I have added a link to your site on my personal gallery page in the "other recommended artistic sites" section. You can view the gallery at http://www.angelfire.com/clone/rsitterly/index.html Please write me if you would like the link removed for any reason. Since you also take a liking to portraiture, you may like some of the drawings on my site.
Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing so much of yourself with everyone. I wish you the best of luck. - Richard

Commentwow. it's amazing to me that you could open yourself up the way you have on this site...these things are not easy to do, but the strength you posess because of your life exudes from your words.
your brother, tore, is with you every day. do you know that? he still loves you. he continues to live through you. because you share his life through this medium with the world, the world, in turn, acknowledges his life. and his passing. i, too, believe in God. i believe in the spirit world, and i believe we are still living after we pass. and it seems to me that tore is the spirit that gives you the faith to fight cancer, the faith to live on.
your website almost does you justice...still, i think you are an amazing person.
peace, friend.

CommentI was just surfing the web and came across your web site and since you have an interest in art I decided to look further. My avocation is collecting antique and contemporary art, framing it and selling it to private clients. My oldest son and I are also amateur photographers. I use a digital camera and he uses both. We use the images to produce computer manipulated images which I creatively mat, frame and sell. I have recently set-up a web site where you can view some of what I am talking about and we also sell our wares on eBay.
Sincerely,

CommentI’m clearly a small-minded person, with my own petty grievances. Hopefully, my work transcends my own petty grievances and small-minded nature. It’s best for me to remain small-minded on an emotional level and broad-minded on a conceptual level. It doesn’t matter whatever it is that makes me do my work. Neurosis, obsession, wanting people to like me, wanting my parents to feel bad for underrating me, making a lot of money, power, social status, wanting girls to like me or just to meet one girl on a job. All of this doesn’t matter as long as the work that I do to achieve these small-minded needs is a lot more interesting than me and my reasons for making it.

I understood some of your paintings better after having read your pages about your disease and for the loss of your twin. Let me say you are a talented artist, and a talented writer too. Although I was so lucky not to experience such tragedies, I think to have been able to understand what you felt in those situations.
Best regards,

CommentI ran across "The Violinist" during a GOOGLE search for something quite different...and forgot what I was looking for. The the design, the colors and the flow are very moving and make me glad I can see. It also made me want to hear a violin or even better, two violins making love in a double concerto. Thank you.

Anne Kari

MessageHi Kirstie,
I've just looked at your website. I think your pictures are lovely. But then, when you come to my house in Pexiora, you'll see that I'm a big Klimt fan, and I can see how many of your pictures are derivative. I look forward to seeing you again next time I'm over in France - and working together next year! Will be in touch.

MessageHello Kirsti, Linda from Vancouver Island, Canada. It's been awhile. Fighting breast cancer is very all consuming. I'm almost finished my chemo treatments, which was the strongest cocktail. I get a month off and then 25 sessions of radiation. Then it's back to my life...look out! My 50th is coming up on June 6th so I'm jumping off a mountainside to go paragliding down to the ocean! Your two paintings "after breast cancer surgery" and the one you titled Linda Main's picture have given me alot of strength when I needed it.I'll always find it amazing how I stumbled upon your website when I most needed, life is amazing at times! So, I'm feeling strong and positive and looking forward to getting my paints out again...we'll keep in touch...Love Linda

MessageHi Kirsti - I found your website when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer - last October, and sent you a note then. I've since had surgery, and completed 6-months of chemo-therapy, but am going back in (in the next few weeks) for a bi-lateral mastectomy - there are some questionable cells still lurking, and I'm not taking any chances! BUT - I didn't want to send you a note to go on about me - but to THANK YOU for your wonderful art!!! Everytime I think of my pending surgery, I bring up the piece that you did titled "After Breast Cancer Surgery" and it makes me feel strong and hopeful. You have no idea how much your art continues to inspire me. Bless You Dear Lady!

MessageDear Ms. Langeland
I came across your evocative paintings while searching for pictures to illustrate a talk I am giving to oncology nurses. I am a psychologist who works in oncology and I am giving a training about the psychological side of the cancer patients experience. I was wondering if I may have your permission to use some of your beautiful paintings. I find that art often conveys more than words can.
Sincerely

MessageMay God Bless You and see you through to good health.
You are a brave woman. I also had invasive lobular carcinoma diagnosed two years ago. I am 57 now and cancer free. (fingers crossed) I've been on Tamoxifen for two years now after the mastectomy and 4 months of chemotherapy ( C & A )
I am a mother of three wonderful grown sons.
And I can't wait to see my grandchildren some day (when they finally arrive)
I pray every day that God will give me that blessing as he has blessed me so much already by walking with me through this whole ordeal. He's walking with you as well.
I met a woman from your site 3 years ago also with lobular and even though we are in different states, we have become very close. She is so impressed by your courage as I am.
Thank you,
Carol

MessageHei Kirsti!

MessageHello Kirsti,
I found your web page because I did a search on invasive lobular carcinoma. I am part of a USA study on breast cancer called the "Sister Study." This 10-year study involves sisters of women who have/had breast cancer. It studies their lives, health histories, diet, etc. Anyway, I don't really know what ILC means, and the study is asking what type of cancer my sister had. Her name was Jan and she also developed cancer in 1994. She lived until March 2003 with advanced, stage 4-5, beginning in her right breast. I will tell you her story if you are interested. I will pray for you and hope you will enjoy your life, pain-free. God bless your fight. Keep fighting it! Wine makes you hurt, lovely lady.
Best regards, Kay Crehore

MessageDear Kirsti,
I'm so very sorry that your ILC has progressed and so sorry you lost your dog as well. Like you, I have Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, Stage II, diagnosed and treated in December, 2002. My husband and I have two dogs we dearly love. We live in New Jersey, USA. I found your site long ago when I looked up my cancer via Google. You've been an inspiration to me. So glad to see you're fighting the good fight though it's far from easy. When you finish chemo, you may find that the hormonal drugs do you a world of good as you are ER positive. There are women who live for many years at Stage IV. I know this as I use a breast cancer message board online. Your art is lovely and you look better bald than most of us look with hair. Take good care.
Love,
Lynn

MessageKirsti,
Your artwork is beautiful and very moving. I was saddened by your story and know this must be a strange and difficult time for you.
One of my graphic designers (a young woman from Germany) found your site while searching for possible images to use for our annual Guide to Breast Cancer Resources. I am editor and publisher of a small regional publication for women in the States called The Women's Times; we publish two editions in Western Massachusetts and surrounds (west of Boston and two hours north of New York City) with distribution of 32,000 copies monthly. Our Guide -- started after several women connected with our magazine were diagnosed with breast cancer -- won a New England-wide award for excellence in journalism relating to cancer from the American Cancer Society.
We would love to use your image "I dream black butterflies" as the cover of our 2005 guide, if that is possible. I do not know if you are well enough to consider this request, but if so, please reply to me by email (esills@thewomenstimes.com). We would be so honored.
Our thoughts are with you.
Warm regards,
Eugenie Sills

Having just passed the fifth year since we lost Jeff, I find this poem (author unknown) so profound. I'm still working on it, waiting for the day to come.
TEARS OF REMEMBRANCE
"There will come a day
when the tears or sorrow
will softly flow into
tears of remembrance...
and your heart will begin
to heal itself...and grieving
will be interrupted by episodes
of joy...and you will hear
the whisper of hope.
There will come a day
when you will welcome the
tears of rememberance...
as a sun shower of the soul...
a turning of the tide...
a promise of peace.
There will come a day
when you will...
risk loving...
go on believing...
and treasure the
tears of remembering."

I was diagnosed in May with invasive lobular (I'm 54)and had a prophylactic bilateral mastctomy. Also unusual here in the States, "what? You don't want to preserve your breasts??!!" No, I dont, get rid of them, get rid of the cancer. I am hoping to get back into some sort of art therapy, I was an art teacher before all this. Now I have no energy. You have inspired me to ge from here amd pick up a brush and try again! Thank you!!! Suzan Washington USA

At this particular moment, I can't excatly say how I am feeling about my situation, but I can tell you that I am terrified. I meet with the surgeon on Friday, to get more details, so until then, I have sleepless nights, crying moments and hours of no appeitite. MessageDear Kirstio,
an invasive lobular carcinoma on my right breast was diagnosed in june 2005. I was operated (just lumphectomy) on the 1st of July an the final biopsy shows similar results as yours: 3 focus of invasive lobular carcinoma, 3 or 4 foci of lobular carcinoma in situ and... surely still more cancer left in the breast. But my lymph nodes are also cancer free. I should also take Tamoxifen for 5 years and undergo a second operation next week; before this second operation I should decide if I prefer a radical mastectomy or a partial mastectomy to determine if some souspicious regions in the upper part of the same breast are "positiv" or not and to remove more cancer that the surgeon might have "left" in the breast in the first surgery. This happened because the biopsy that they make during the operation was... WRONG!!! I really do not know what to choose!
Thank you for your report! It is as if I would be reading my own story, told by a sensitive, special woman. I have learned a lot reading your words.

MessageHello Kirsti, hope your doing well..think of you often. My 60 kil. walk was such an amazing experience. There was 1800 people and we raised 5.4 million dollars for Breast Cancer research, that was just Vancouver, Brithish Columbia. There will be walks in 5 more cities, I believe there will be over 12 million raised! My friend and I are going to have several benifit concerts over the next year to raise money for next years walk...yes we love the blisters on our feet! Well I have finally moved into our new place. We are on top of a small mountain with incredible views of the ocean and mountains. My focus is now putting a painting studio together and MAKE time for creating! I hope your creating new canvases. This would so theraputic for you. I would still love some of your work, it really touches me...your design and colors. Please keep in touch, love from your friend Linda

MessageHello Kirsti,
I found your website and read it after looking for information for my Mom who was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Your story moved me and your art work is absolutely stunning with so much emotion spilling forth.
I was wondering if during this entire ordeal, you have changed your diet. There are ways through diet and supplementation
to help cure cancer, even in the mestastis stages. We helped my Mother-in-law who had lung cancer and less than 2 months to live. We used a machine called The Rife machine, which helped her become cancer free after
a long year of hard work, this included changing her diet and adding supplements.
She smoked during this entire process and still beat the cancer.
There are miracles out there, so stay strong. My prayers are with you! I will be passing your story on to my Mother.
Thank you.

MessageI was surfing the web to find some info on invasive lobular breast cancer, and I came across your site. The way you tell your story is not in a pitiful way....but uplifting and enlightening. My best friend of 31yrs told me today she has breast cancer. It's ironic, but she found it while taking a shower on 9/24/05 - which is also my birthday. Too weird!! She is calm about it and I am out of control. It's all I can think about!! I just start crying uncontrollably. I think it's the shock of it all.
Please feel free to write if you are feeling up to it. You have a friend in me.

MessageI was told last Friday that I have stage iiia breast cancer. I am only 38 years old and it is very scary. I appreciate your honesty when describing what you have been going through. I hope you do beat it...and I think you should go visit your family and friends to get your spirits back up once treatment allows it. I am going for a modified radical mastectomy this Friday morning and am praying it has not spread. Please let me know if there is anything you can think for me to ask or to help with follow-up. I do not meet the high risk categories and the lump they removed last Friday was over 5cm. Thanks for posting your story. good luck.

MessageDear Kirsti,
Can't you go back to Norway for a while? Surely there are doctors there who can continue your treatments. Time to be with your family, your friends, and your native language, isn't it? Might do you a world of good. I hope you're getting the latest anti-nausea drugs as I hear they work. Maybe that's not for all, just what I read.
I think of you often and pray for you.

MessageHei Kirsti!
Takk for sist.
Elisabeth

MessageI appreciated reading your story. I lost my Mom to Lobular Invasive Breast Cancer, in a short three weeks after she was diagnosed. Praise GOD in your pain and suffering that HE has allowed you one more day. HE will never ask you to bare more than HE is willing to bring you through. Pray that HIS will be done in your life; thank HIM for every minute of every day; and ask HIM to forgive and save you when HE desides that you have suffered enough. Know that GOD is in control!

MessageHi Kirsti - found your website, whilst researching invasive lobular carcinoma - once again! I am a 17 year survivor of ILC - had a modified radical mastectomy in May of 1988, at the age of 45. Several problems over the years, but I'm still here!! However,I'm not the only one in the family to have it. My younger sister called me a month ago from England ( I live in Ontario, Canada ) to tell me that she had just been diagnosed with ILC. She had surgery 3 days ago - a lumpectomy and removal of 3 lymph nodes. Everything seems to have gone OK, but we won't know the final results for a couple of weeks. My thoughts and prayers go with you. Lynda

MessageI was just diagnozed with lobular carcinoma of the breast. Will be having bone scan, liver scan and chest X-ray tomorrow and then see what to do. If anything suspicious shows up as a result of those tests, they will do a brain scan. Of course (old joke)they'll find nothing there!)If all is clear I'll have a lumpectomy.
The article is of much interest to me and I will keep it in mind as I progress through this. I know God goes with me and has never left me stranded. I will be looking for the continuation of your story.

MessageI share in your pain. I to was diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer stage 4. For almost a year going back to the summer of 2004, I noticed that I was experiencing some minor changes in my body. My diet was not as big as usual, I was loosing a little weight, but I was also trying the Atkins diet. Sometimes I would have diahrrhea and get bloated for days at a time.
I went to the DR. in March for an eye infection and I mentioned to him I was having digetive issues. He examed my eye, it was an eye infection, then he had me lay down on the table so he could feel my belly. He said I was 100% gasy and I was tender to the touch. I told him it was the 5th day of being bloated and was starting to go down. He was very concerned and thought I has a bowel obstruction. In 4 days I went for a CT and MRI. The results was abdominal fluid, dialated kidneys and a 2.5cm mass by my rt. ovary. He sent me to the top Gynocological oncoligist in California, right here in my home town of Palm Springs. He repeated the CT and sent me for an ultra sound. They showed the same thing. At first he thought a functioning cyst, he suggested waiting 2 weeks and repeat all again. I did and it was the same. He scheduled me for exploratory abdominal surgery. But before that I was sent to a Urologist for the dialated kidneys.
I had to have stents put in both my uterers (sp)to open them up all the way so they could dump properly.
In surgery my oncologist consulted with another Dr., he was confused by what he saw. Everything was sooooooo swollen and fluid everywhere. He did not find a mass, it was a swollen cystic ovary. He removed both ovaries and both fallopian tubes. He could not take the uterus, to much swelling and he feared to much blood loss. He did biopsy snips on all he took out, my small bowel too.
Then he closed me up. 4 days later while still in the hospital the lab came back positive for Lobular Breast Cancer, very slow growing. No lump has ever been found. I hand mamograms and pap smears religiously every year all negative. I was then sent to the top in her field (breast cancer specialist Dr. Cynthia Leichman). Her and her husband (colon cancer specialist) have been in reseach for years, and are supposed to be top in their field. I love her, she is wonderful and a great Dr.
At our first meeeting we went over everything and she had a plan. I started 2 kinds of chemo 2 weeks later. Taxol and doxol. I got the taxol every week and the Doxol every other week. I did that for 9 weeks with no side affects. I was re scanned and it was in remission. There were some tiny spots on my lower spin that were not picked up on the original scan and the chemo did not work for that. I also had a Pet Scan was came back negative (full body). Her next plan was for me to try the hormone blocker Arimidex. Because my cancer is hormone receptor positve, she felt this would work to clear up the spots on my spine and keep the rest in remission. I've been on one pill a day for 9 weeks, with very few side affects. Some muscle and bone pain, but not enough to take any pain killers.
Today I was re scanned and I will get the results on Friday. My blood work has been great through the whole thing, I think in some ways I have been lucky that nothing has slowed me down, I've been working all along, taking care or 4 children, my husband and 13 dogs. I breed labs, Pugs and Chihuahua's.
I pray to the Lord everyday and thank him for giving me the strength to fight this and keep going for my family. I know it is in Gods hands, I believe his plan for me is to fight and get healthy for myself and my family. This to will be continued if you do not mind.

Also do you know anything about the survivial rate in stage 3 cancer. You can be completely honest with me.

MessageI've just been enjoying your galleries! Your work is beautiful. The patterns -wonderful, and you have a great sense of colour.
I am a graphic designer and calligrapher in British Columbia, Canada. I wondered if you were aware of the international calligraphy magazine, Letter Arts Review? (available thru www.johnnealbooks.com) They have a yearly international competition, and I could imagine your work on the pages. It is wonderful seeing someone do a modern take on illumination.
I also wonder if you have heard of Sheila Waters - the lovely detail in your work reminds me of her work.

Beundrer deg kolosalt for ditt pågangsmot.
